Avocado Toast
Creamy mashed avocado on crisp toasted bread with lemon, salt, and chili flakes. A five-minute breakfast that actually fills you up.
Avocado toast earned its popularity for a reason: it is fast, filling, and tastes far better than the effort suggests. Good bread and a ripe avocado do most of the work.
Keep it simple with lemon, salt, and a little heat, and crisp the toast properly so it holds up. Add an egg on top when you want something more substantial.
Ingredients
- 1 ripe avocado
- 2 slices of good bread
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Red chili flakes, to taste
- Olive oil, to drizzle
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Toast the bread until deeply golden and crisp.
- Halve the avocado, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
- Mash it with the lemon juice and salt, leaving a few chunks for texture.
- Spread the avocado thickly over the warm toast.
- Drizzle with olive oil and finish with chili flakes and black pepper.
Equipment
- Toaster
- Mixing bowl
Tips
- Toast the bread until it is genuinely crisp; soft toast collapses under the avocado.
- The lemon brightens the avocado and keeps it from browning, so do not skip it.
- A fried or poached egg on top turns this into a full meal.
