Overnight Oats
Creamy, no-cook oats you stir together at night and eat cold in the morning. A five-minute breakfast that waits for you.
Overnight oats are the breakfast for people who do not want to think before coffee. You do all the work the night before, and in the morning it is already done and waiting in the fridge.
The ratio is the whole recipe: roughly equal parts oats and liquid, plus a spoonful of chia to thicken it up. From there you can swap the fruit and sweetener however you like.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Fruit and nuts, to top
Instructions
- Add the oats, milk, yogurt, chia seeds, honey, vanilla, and salt to a jar or container.
- Stir well, making sure no dry oats are stuck to the bottom.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours.
- In the morning, stir again and loosen with a splash of milk if it is too thick.
- Top with fresh fruit and nuts, then eat straight from the jar.
Equipment
- Jar or container with a lid
Tips
- Use rolled oats, not instant or steel-cut; instant turns to mush and steel-cut stays hard.
- The chia seeds thicken everything, so add more milk in the morning if you like it looser.
- Stir in the toppings just before eating so they stay fresh and crunchy.
