Rice Krispie Treats
Chewy, buttery marshmallow cereal bars that come together in one pot in ten minutes. The easiest no-bake treat there is.
Rice Krispie treats are the gateway dessert: no oven, one pot, and about ten minutes from start to finish. Butter, marshmallows, and cereal are all it takes.
The only way to go wrong is heat and pressure. Melt the marshmallows low and slow, and press the bars in gently so they stay soft and chewy.
Ingredients
- 6 cups crisp rice cereal
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 bag (10 oz) marshmallows
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Butter a 9x13-inch pan or line it with parchment.
- Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat.
- Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
- Stir in the salt and vanilla, then turn off the heat.
- Add the cereal and fold until every piece is coated.
- Press the mixture into the pan with a buttered spatula, then let it cool before cutting into squares.
Equipment
- Large pot
- 9x13-inch pan
Tips
- Keep the heat low; overheated marshmallows make hard, dense treats.
- Press the mixture down gently; packing it too tightly makes the bars tough.
- Butter your hands or spatula so the sticky mixture does not cling to everything.
